Lucie Páchová will share her ongoing interest in the acoustic communication of ocean fish and their specific ways of producing and receiving sound. Similarly to how fish drum their swim bladders, make them resonate by vibrating sonic muscles, or rub their bones and fins to stridulate, Lucie tries to approach her voice and mouth through their materiality and mechanical potential rather than using breath and vocal cords to vocalize. She explores similar mechanisms for producing sound through working with sea-worn pebbles and stones. Through amplification and the expansion of these micro-sounds into a larger four-channel spatial field, she shifts their scale and perspective. In this way, we are invited to ask how differently we can use our voices and bodies in order to bring more attention to the agencies of overlooked species and materials.
Joke Caimo presents a series of attempts: experiments with self-made cyborg tools in which collective resonance emerges in different ways, through colour and colour noise, through breath, voice and vibration. Instructions invite you into social and vocal interactions with instruments that make your level of excitement, your orgasmic rhythm or your breath audible and visible. From breathing sirens and whisper chains to a group game in the browser and a device to connect with: together we make our collective spirit visible, tangible and audible, in a stimulating, empowering yet safe feedback loop.
